The mission of Tunnel Hill Elementary School is to guide, to engage, and to prepare our students. There is a strong feeling of pride amond the faculty, staff, students, and community of Tunnel Hill which is evident in our school.

Newspaper clippings show that a school was in existence in Tunnel Hill as early as 1902. The first school was a boarding school for grades one through eleven and located on the current school site. That building burned and was replaced by a three-room clapboard building. Potbellied stoves provided heat, and water was carried from a nearby stream. In 1936 the school consolidated with several other small schools in the area and a brick building was built which included indoor bathrooms. Parts of that building are still being used today. A new gymnasium was completed in November 2002 using SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) funds. The gymnasium includes a stage area, office space, restrooms, and classrooms for music and ALPHA.
